Krak des Chevaliers Threatened
From medievalists.net: the town below the famed crusader castle is being shelled by the Syrian government in retaliation for anti-government uprisings. Video shows buildings in the town damaged by shells; any possible damage to the castle is unclear at this point.

Fire at Krasna Horka
The fourteenth-century Slovakian castle of Krasna Horka suffered extensive damage due to an accidental fire, with the castle's roof being completely destroyed. Funding for the castle's restoration is currently being coordinated.

Tameside Castle Excavations
A team from the Center for Applied Archaeology at the University of Salford have concluded that the castle, begun by the Earl of Chester during the Anarchy, was never completed. King Stephen had granted the Scottish king lands for which the Earl had a competing title; the castle seems to have been intended to guard the border and protect the Earl's claim.

Medieval Castle Unearthed in Denmark
The foundations of the late thirteenth century castle of King Erik Menved have been found on the Island of Samsø. Archaeologists from the National Museum initially did not realize that their find was part of a larger building. Excavation will continue at the site.

New Discoveries at Prague Castle
Ongoing excavation at Prague Castle has led to the discovery of more evidence about the early state of the castle's defenses. Archaeologists working in an area between the castle's second and third courtyards have uncovered part of the castle's original moat and a tenth or eleventh century rampart; these new finds complement what was previously known about the castle's early fortifications.

Excavations at Edinburgh Castle
Archaeologists have discovered part of the late medieval boundary wall and a sixteenth-century defensive spur, structures that were previously known only from early drawings of the castle.
